I am a South African, from the beautiful city of Cape Town, with Johannesburg being home. A dietician by profession but a complete foodie at heart; my love for food runs deep, new tastes, new recipes, new aromas all make my heart aflutter. It’s ironic because my profession professes healthy eating yet I always get told you always posting food on social media. I say, I live to eat and eat to live! Dieticians are human too!
Apart from the love of food, travel is another love of mine. I really do believe that travel opens one up to exploration of the self. You realise what a tiny speck you occupy in the world. My love for travel started with my first international trip in 2008; and how thankful I am for that first trip. Together with my closest ones I got a taste of what it is like to be a total stranger in foreign lands. I always think of a quote by Bill Bryson when I travel, as it holds such truth.
“I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, and you can’t even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses”
The name “A foodies wanderlust” is the perfect combination of who I am. I decided to start this blog as a result of many family members and friends prompting me to document my recipes, foodie finds as well as my travels and adventures. I hope this blog will inspire all of you to whip out those utensils and try some recipes, perhaps try out new restaurants as well as inspire you to travel and experience new places, cities and countries.
Adventure, growth and stepping away from familiarity can bring about the best of life experiences!
